Hurricanes and Honor Societies

Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud.
—Sophocles (One of classical Athens' three great tragic playwrights)
So yeah, Tropical Storm Fey is supposed to be a Category 1 Hurricane by the time it hits Tampa Bay tomorrow. Not sure how I feel about that. At least its not un-expected like an earthquake. And for all of you who are thinking "Oh, no biggy, its just a cat 1" let me remind you of Hurricane Charlie 4 years ago that jumped from a Cat 2 to a Cat 4 in a matter of hours.

So we're rushed at the office today, making preparations. Mostly just backing everything up and having meetings about our disaster recovery plans and policies. I get a key to the front door and get to take home a 400gb tape backup of all of our servers and databases... responsibility is fun!

Anyways, while I've been waiting for all the various jobs to run I got bored and started to read the fine print in my school's catalog. Reading the course descriptions and comparing them to the actual was mildly interesting. But mostly it was like: legal blah blah blah, harassment blah blah blah, loans blah blah blah, grants blah... wait! Grants? Free money? I like free money! Sure enough, there's a few different grants that I'm eligible for with my GPA, and especially now that I'm going into the upper division Bachelor program.

Also buried under 70-some pages of size 8 font I found out that ITT, Tampa has both Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society chapters!

So today when I get to school I need to do a few things: take my Linux System Administration final; ask about grants and applications for; and ask about honor societies and getting sponsorship for membership. Look at me doin' the collage thing...
